Urbino in Marche region in Italy, is one of the hidden gems for history lovers. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage site and now belongs to one of my favourite Italian towns.
We were in Urbino during the hot summer on a Sunday. In the old town, people were hiding in the umbrella shadows of the numerous cafes and restaurants. The old town is known for many medieval ensembles and occupying the remains of the independent Renaissance culture. Today it is recognized as a student town.
While we were walking along the city walls, we saw a hill nearby and I realised that the best view on Urbino that we would enjoy would be from outside of the town. Without hesitation, we left the city walls and climbed up the hill which appeared to be a city park. The trees gave us pleasant shelter from the sun and soon enough – we could admire this medieval city from perspective.
