Neuschwanstein Castle | Bavaria, Germany

Neuschwanstein Castle – Free Like a Bird

Once we returned to the car, at the base of the Alpine foothills of which Neuschwanstein Castle stood, I looked once more behind me. The Bavarian Castle looked slightly isolated on the edge of the rock. I then looked at the sky above – do you see it too?

My first thought was that it was a person with a parachute – free like a bird. Upon viewing the Neuschwanstein Castle perspective, we stood in awe as to what no one else could see. Avoiding all the crowds was no doubt an amazing experience…

There are usually 6000 visitors per day at Neuschwanstein Castle, so I was prepared for an overcrowding of people. Fortunately, many of these visitors travelled by bus, so the path going up into the castle was pleasantly empty during the morning hours.

Visiting Neuschwanstein Castle has been a wish of Daria’s for many years and from this year, my wish was to visit Sintra, due to the many Romanesque castles it occupies. Neuschwanstein was built in the 19th Century by the kind Ludwik II of Bavaria in honour of Richard Wagner. After the death of the king, the castle was open to the public. From interesting facts, Disney was actually inspired by this Bavarian Castle – the Cinderella Castle is strikingly similar.

I shot some more photographs in this location – so stay tuned! They will soon come!
