Prague (Praha) is often referred to as „golden city“. When the sun is in the right position, you understand why – but when the sun goes down it can happen that Prague appears in a total different color. When we took the stairs up to the Letná Park (Letenské sady), famous for the huge Stalin-Memorial that was replaced by a likewise huge metronome, it looked like it is going to be a wonderful sunset. I’ve never seen the sky in Prague that pink before.

You can think about the German government whatever you want. But when it comes to the government district it has to be appreciated as a flagship for modern architecture in Berlin. The district is still not completed; right now they again add some new buildings. Inevitably this leads to a strong contrast with the just 10 year old Paul-Löbe-Haus on the one side and the historical Reichstag building on the other.

To get up at five in the morning when you’re travelling is hard, but it has its advantages. Often you find locations that look much better during sunrise than during sunset. And, usually, you find a pretty quiet environment without many people around.

Now the third, and my favorite, part of the series Brandenburg Gate / Festival of Lights. Bringing all the famous landscapes together and displaying them on the Brandenburg gate in such a colorful way – great job, whoever came up with that idea!

The Wieliczka Salt Mine must make it on your list when you have a rainy day in Cracow. The mine is simply mind-blowing. There are 300km full of statues, arts and chapels on 9 levels that were built over the last 700 years. It is the oldest salt mine of its kind in Europe and since 1978 legitimately among the first UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

For me, Prague will always be something special. I studied there for a semester and I had a great time. Prague Castle (Pražský hrad) and Charles Bridge (Karlův most) are certainly the most photographed sights. I know it’s the standard shot of Prague, but I desperately wanted to take it.

The second part of my series Brandenburg Gate / Festival of Lights shows Berlin’s famous landmark in a cloud cover. This is a beautiful display in my opinion as the blue and cloudy sky is a good contrast to the colour of the sandstone.

The Tatra Mountains are the biggest mountains in Poland with a height up to 2,499m. Zakopane is a small town at the foot of the mountains that invite tourists from all over the world. What’s especially nice about Zakopane is its location in the valley. Because of that you can climb a “hill” (Me as a Berliner, I call it a mountain) and have a stunning view on this highest part of the Carpathians.

London is known for rainy weather, which lasts all the time, but it seems that I’ve been lucky on my short visit. The city waited up for me with a wonderful sunny, but cold weekend. I just had to take a photo of the London Eye.

During the yearly Festival of Lights in Berlin it is not so easy to find a good spot. The composition should be appealing, not too many people should cross the photo and it would better be something which wasn’t photographed a thousand times before. Well, I’m certainly not the first in Berlin who takes a shot of the Brandenburg Gate (Brandenburger Tor) together with the sign for the Pariser Platz. But that evening I liked that combination so much that I shot a complete series of the illuminations from there.
