De Sint-Vituskathedraal<\/a> in Praag is de grootste kerk van heel Tsjechi\u00eb. Het is dan ook geen sinecure om haar in \u00e9\u00e9n foto vast te leggen. Op de meeste bekende foto\u2019s van Praag<\/a> zie je slechts een deel van de kathedraal, samen met de Hrad\u010dany-burcht. Nico kon deze foto pas een paar jaar na zijn eerste foto\u2019s maken. Toen waren zijn vaardigheden en apparatuur al zo ver dat hij zo\u2019n hoog gebouw kon vastleggen zonder dat hij de ruimte had om een paar stappen achteruit te doen.<\/p>\n

De kathedraal van de heiligen Vitus, Wenceslaus en Adalbert in Praag wordt gewoonlijk de Sint-Vituskathedraal genoemd (Katedr\u00e1la svat\u00e9ho V\u00edta in het Tsjechisch). Dit was tot 1997 ook de offici\u00eble naam van deze kerk. Het is de derde kerk die op deze plek staat. De eerste werd gebouwd in 930. Als we Wikipedia mogen geloven, koos de stichter van deze eerste kerk, Wenceslaus I de Heilige, niet voor niets Sint-Vitus als zijn patroonheilige. De hertog van Bohemen wilde zijn volk tot het christendom bekeren. Sint-Vitus in het Tsjechisch (Svat\u00fd V\u00edt) klinkt bijna identiek aan de naam van de heidense godheid van de Slaven in het gebied, 'Svantevit'. Op deze manier hoopte de bedachtzame prins de nieuwe religie gemakkelijker aanvaardbaar te maken.<\/p>\n
