Qanat Quartier is de nieuw gebouwde wijk van Doha in 'The Pearl'. En als het uitzicht op Lusail (met die opvallende, magneetachtige Katara-torens) er niet was geweest, zou het voelen alsof we van het<\/a> woestijnachtige Qatar<\/a> naar Veneti\u00eb waren verhuisd.<\/p>\n

We moeten toegeven dat het Qanat Quartier in "The Pearl" ons een beetje in de war bracht. Een paar minuten eerder waren we nog de haven van 'The Pearl' aan het verkennen en plotseling bevonden we ons in een compleet andere wereld. De gebouwen<\/a> van het Qanat Quartier zijn ontworpen<\/a> en geschilderd om Veneti\u00eb te weerspiegelen. Maar dat is niet alles \u2013 ook de grachten en bruggen zelf deden opvallend denken aan die Italiaanse stad (je ziet ook de 'Rialto'-brug<\/a> op een van Nico's foto's). Daarnaast klonk er romantische en ontspannende muziek uit luidsprekers die ergens langs de waterkant verborgen waren, wat het gevoel van een Italiaanse zomer opriep.<\/p>\n

Het grote verschil was echter… de aanwezigheid van mensen. Terwijl je in het echte Veneti\u00eb<\/a> geen stap kunt zetten zonder tegen anderen aan te botsen, kwamen we in het Qanat Quartier maar een paar voorbijgangers tegen. Er zijn ook geen drukbezochte caf\u00e9s en restaurants. De hele "stad" lijkt net gebouwd te zijn en nog te wachten op zijn bewoners.<\/p>\n

Ik vroeg me af of het wel zin had om Veneti\u00eb te vergelijken met het Qanat Quartier. Ondanks de schijnbare gelijkenis met Veneti\u00eb, merk je al snel dat je in een ander deel van de wereld bent \u2013 bijvoorbeeld door het uitzicht op Lusail. Of door het feit dat je met Uber naar het Qanat Quartier kunt gaan \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
