Tegenwoordig domineert hij de skyline van <a href=\"https:\/\/sumfinity.com\/nl\/travel\/florence-italy\/\">Florence <\/a>en kun je je alleen maar verbazen over hoe dit bouwwerk de eeuwen heeft doorstaan.<\/p>\n<h2><em>Kathedraal Basilica di San Lorenzo di Firenze<\/em><\/h2>\n<p><em>De kathedraal van Florence,<\/em> of de offici\u00eble naam <em>\u2018Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore\u2019<\/em>, is <strong><u>DE<\/u><\/strong> belangrijkste bezienswaardigheid in <em>Florence<a href=\"https:\/\/sumfinity.com\/nl\/travel\/italie\/\">, Itali\u00eb<\/a><\/em>. De kathedraal, samen met het <em>baptisterium<\/em> en <em>Giotto\u2019s<\/em> <em>Campanile<\/em> die vlak bij elkaar staan, staan op de <a href=\"https:\/\/sumfinity.com\/nl\/fotos\/tag\/unesco-nl\/\">Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO<\/a>. Geen <a href=\"https:\/\/sumfinity.com\/nl\/travel\/toscane\/\">reis naar Toscane<\/a> is compleet zonder een bezoek hieraan.<\/p>\n<p>De bouw van de kathedraal werd in 1294 goedgekeurd door de gemeenteraad, toen de vorige <em>kathedraal, de Basilica di San Lorenzo di Firenze,<\/em> niet meer vol was voor de groeiende bevolking van <a href=\"https:\/\/sumfinity.com\/category\/hdr-photos\/italy\/florence\/\"><em>Florence<\/em><\/a>. Het ontwerp is van de hand van dezelfde architect als die van <em>het Palazzo<\/em> <em>Vecchio<\/em> en <em>de Basilica Santa Croce<\/em>: <em>Arnolfo di Cambio.<\/em> Hij stelde zich een achthoekige koepel voor \u2013 deze droom kwam pas in 1418 uit, toen <em>Filippo<\/em> <em>Brunelleschi<\/em> de architectuurwedstrijd won om het ontwerp te maken en de bouw ervan op zich te nemen.<\/p>\n<p>Tegenwoordig zijn we gewend om <a href=\"https:\/\/sumfinity.com\/nl\/fotos\/tag\/kathedraal\/\">koepels <em>van kathedralen<\/em><\/a> te zien in de meeste bekende steden, maar in de 15e eeuw was het bijna onvoorstelbaar om zo&#x27;n bouwwerk te bouwen zonder de mensen die eronder zouden bidden in gevaar te brengen. Zo&#x27;n omvang leek bijna onmogelijk te bouwen, maar het genie <em>van Brunelleschi<\/em> slaagde erin de grootste koepel te bouwen die de wereld ooit had gezien en, in die tijd, \u2013 de constructie werd gemaakt met een dubbele schil, ondersteund door stevige pilaren en daardoor staat de koepel vandaag de dag nog steeds stevig.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vele decennia na de oprichting van de Dom van Florence in de 13e eeuw werd de Dom van Florence geopend en het was de geniale geest van Filippo Brunelleschi die precies uitvogelde hoe de koepel gebouwd moest worden, de eerste in zijn soort in de 15e eeuw.
