Toen de hemel zich een beetje opende en de UFO in het oranje licht werd verlicht, leek het wel alsof ik een soort van de beroemde sc\u00e8ne uit de film Independence Day zag \u2013 live in Bratislava<\/a>. Het kon niet lang meer duren voordat de eerste laserstralen over de Donau zouden schieten en de stad met de grond gelijk zouden maken\u2026<\/p>\n

Ok\u00e9, terug naar de realiteit. Natuurlijk was ik geen getuige van een landing van buitenaardse wezens in de hoofdstad van Slowakije <\/a>en kwam de UFO niet van lichtjaren ver. In plaats daarvan is UFO gewoon de mooie naam die is gegeven aan het uitkijkpunt en restaurant bovenop de Nieuwe Brug (ook wel Most SNP<\/a> of Brug van de Slowaakse Nationale Opstand genoemd).<\/p>\n

Laten we eens kijken naar enkele feiten over de Most SNP<\/a>. De brug is vernoemd naar de Slowaakse Nationale Opstand die plaatsvond tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog, en hij overspant de Donau in Bratislava. Het is een van de langste bruggen in Slowakije, met een lengte van 430 meter, en hij heeft twee rijbanen voor auto\u2019s en trams, evenals een voetpad voor wie er rustig overheen wil wandelen.<\/p>\n

Maar genoeg over die saaie dingen, laten we het hebben over wat er echt toe doet: de leuke weetjes! Wist je dat de brug is ontworpen door een team van Slowaakse ingenieurs en architecten die in de jaren zestig een wedstrijd wonnen? Ze versloegen verschillende internationale teams, waaronder een uit de Sovjet-Unie, waarmee ze bewezen dat Slowaaks talent geen grenzen kent.<\/p>\n

En als je je afvraagt waarom de brug een beetje op een UFO lijkt, dat komt omdat hij is ontworpen om de modernistische architectuur van die tijd te weerspiegelen. Maar sommige locals hebben een andere theorie \u2013 zij zeggen dat de brug is gebouwd om op een ruimteschip te lijken dat hen van de aarde weg zal halen als er ooit een zombie-apocalyps plaatsvindt. We weten niet of dat waar is, maar het is zeker een interessante theorie!<\/p>\n

Maar wacht, er is meer! De brug is te zien geweest in verschillende films, waaronder de Slowaakse film "Hostage" en de internationale kaskraker "The Peacemaker" met George Clooney en Nicole Kidman in de hoofdrollen. Dus let de volgende keer dat je deze films kijkt eens op de Brug van de Slowaakse Nationale Opstand.<\/p>\n

Maar de echte reden om deze brug over te steken is het adembenemende uitzicht dat hij biedt. Vanaf de top kun je de hele stad Bratislava zien, de majestueuze Donau en zelfs het naburige Oostenrijk. En als je geluk hebt, zie je misschien zelfs een glimp van een UFO die in de lucht zweeft (ok\u00e9, dat laatste is een grapje).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Werkwijze<\/h2>\n

Het was een grijze winterdag toen we naar het kasteel in Bratislava klommen. Ik had niet veel hoop op goede foto\u2019s, want het licht was gewoon te slecht. Maar soms loont het om de hele dag met je spullen te sjouwen \u2013 toen de wolken even opengingen, was ik heel blij dat ik alles bij me had. Het bleek lastig om het juiste uitkijkpunt te vinden, omdat het kasteel net gerenoveerd werd. Daarom besloot ik uiteindelijk deze panoramafoto te maken van de Nieuwe Brug over de Donau.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
