Bucharest is a city for which it seems easy to me to answer the obligatory question “So how did you like Bucharest?”. Well, maybe not judging, but describing it. And everything is captured more or less in this one photo.
Cables. Wherever you go, there are cables. Some are hanging to the ground, some are still in place. But they really are on every single street light. Our host Radu explained us that they remain from the time when there was no real electricity network. Everyone just established their own energy connection and as of now, not much changed.
Hotels. They seem to mushroom up. Wherever you look, there is a hotel. The town seems to discover the tourism and the economy seems to do well. Prices are almost as in Germany and significantly higher than in other post-communistic countries.
Traffic. Traffic lights don’t seem to bother anybody, pavements are reserved for parking cars, and traffic lanes do not exist. I was kind of happy to decide in last minute to take the train instead of a rental car.
Beautiful Architecture. I know, matter of taste. But I just like that classical, pompous style. You can surmise it in the building on the left.
Everything together. Contrasts wherever you are looking, a completely destroyed house next to a luxury hotel. A hotel on the green and nothing around. Everything works.
