Clock Tower (Sahat Kula) | Podgorica, Montenegro

Clock Tower (Sahat Kula) in Podgorica, Montenegro. Sight from Ottoman times.

A Sensual Experience at The Clock Tower of Podgorica, Montenegro

Podgorica city centre is unlike any other city I have ever seen in my life. I expected small shops and touristic places in the middle of the capital of Montenegro. To my surprise, the centre was sprinkled with small houses! On this side of the district though, you can see the Clock-Tower, which dates right back to the Ottoman times.

In Montenegrin, the name of the Clock-Tower is Sahat Kula. It was built in the 17th century during the Ottoman period remaining one of the oldest landmarks of Montenegro and is protected by law. Unfortunately, I was unable to capture the cross on the tower which was installed at the end of 19th Century as a symbol of a transfer of the city from the Ottomans into the hands of the Christian Montenegrins.

But now, something for the senses!

Behind the tower stood Pod Volat, which in my opinion, was the best restaurant in Podgorica – be sure not to miss it, once you pay visit to Montenegro. Possibly not a recommended restaurant for vegetarians but if you love meat, you will have an unforgettable feast for a reasonable price!
