The Cathedral of Saint Tryphon | Kotor, Montenegro

Picture of the Kotor Cathedral, taken just before sunrise.

You may have noticed that my favorite time to shoot pictures is just before sunrise. At that time the streets are empty, since the city is still sleeping. Most of my photos from Kotor, Montenegro (including this one), were shot during the blue hour.

The Kotor cats

We visited this Adriatic Sea port right after New Year Eve, which explains the festive lights on the buildings. While strolling around Kotor Old Town so early in the morning, I discovered something peculiar – this is a cat city! Kotor cats are everywhere and they are so famous that you can buy a postcard with their image in any souvenir shop.

The Cathedral of Saint Tryphon

Consecrated in 1166, the Kotor Cathedral was built in honor of Saint Tryphon, who is considered by the locals as the patron and protector of the city. Before that, in the 10th century, an older church existed there. It has been keeping Saint Tryphon’s remains.

Those of you, who have been in Kotor Old Town during the day, know that the square in front of the Kotor Cathedral looks so impressive, illuminated by the light marble of the cat stones. If you plan to visit Kotor, make sure to go up to the Cathedrals’ Tower. Sadly, we didn’t have time to do that. Well, probably next time.

Or it's a place which you always dreamed to be one day?

I wish a high-quality print of my photo will bring you a feeling of being there at any time!
