Shad Thames est l'une des rues les plus c\u00e9l\u00e8bres pr\u00e8s de Tower Bridge, au bord de la Tamise, \u00e0 Londres. \u00c0 l'\u00e9poque victorienne, c'est l\u00e0 que se trouvaient les plus grands entrep\u00f4ts de Londres. Au fil du temps, cependant, ce quartier a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 se d\u00e9grader. Jusqu'aux ann\u00e9es 1980, o\u00f9 les anciens entrep\u00f4ts ont \u00e9t\u00e9 transform\u00e9s en appartements de luxe.<\/p>\n

L'origine du nom \u00ab Shad \u00bb n'est pas tout \u00e0 fait claire. Une th\u00e9orie veut qu'il s'agisse de l'abr\u00e9viation de \u00ab St John-at-Thames \u00bb, le nom d'une \u00e9glise qui se trouvait pr\u00e8s de cette rue. Une autre th\u00e9orie dit que le nom vient du nom du poisson que l'on trouve dans la Tamise.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 l'\u00e9poque victorienne, les plus grands entrep\u00f4ts de Londres se trouvaient ici. C'est l\u00e0 que des marchandises telles que le th\u00e9, le caf\u00e9 et les \u00e9pices provenant de pays lointains \u00e9taient d\u00e9charg\u00e9es des navires. Aujourd\u2019hui encore, certains b\u00e2timents portent les noms des produits qui \u00e9taient stock\u00e9s dans les anciens entrep\u00f4ts, comme \u00ab Vanilla and Sesame \u00bb, \u00ab Cayenne \u00bb ou \u00ab Tea Trade Wharf \u00bb.
