This photo shows the Charles Bridge in Prague, with the guard tower on the side of the historic old town. It’s the old, traditional way to get from the royal side of the city to the civil old town. Most photos from Prague are taken from exactly the opposite site of the river. The place from which I took this photo however is rarely visited by tourists. A missed opportunity, just like most photographers pack up their stuff as soon as the blue hour finished – but why?
Prague Photos - Travel & Fine Art
I captured the fireworks over the Rudolfinum in Prague rather randomly. I just prepared to take photos from the Charles Bridge when the firework started. Only turning around the camera and not changing any settings, I took some photos. Fortunately, I did so as the fireworks only lasted for a few seconds.
Prague (Praha) is often referred to as „golden city“. When the sun is in the right position, you understand why – but when the sun goes down it can happen that Prague appears in a total different color. When we took the stairs up to the Letná Park (Letenské sady), famous for the huge Stalin-Memorial that was replaced by a likewise huge metronome, it looked like it is going to be a wonderful sunset. I’ve never seen the sky in Prague that pink before.
For me, Prague will always be something special. I studied there for a semester and I had a great time. Prague Castle (Pražský hrad) and Charles Bridge (Karlův most) are certainly the most photographed sights. I know it’s the standard shot of Prague, but I desperately wanted to take it.
In the background you see the St Nicholas Cathedral (Kostel svatého Mikuláše) and the big street is called Karmelitská. But if you’ve ever been in Prague, you know how busy that street is. It took something like 15 minutes of waiting to get this shot without cars/ trams/ tourist groups crossing the scene.
The alley is located close to the Prague Castle, but that hidden that you probably will only meet locals. Actually we were just on the way to some hill to use the golden hour to shoot some photos on which Prague would be able to justify its name “Golden City”. As you can see, the golden hour had already begun – the timing for this shot couldn’t have been better.
