The Semperoper is probably the most famous opera house in Germany. The reason however, is quite different as one might expect: The Radeberger Group – Germany’s largest brewery group – uses the Opera House for many years in the background of the advertisements for the Radeberger beer. Even if try to resist any advertising as much as possible, I must admit that it immediately came to my mind as I stood there.
Regardless of that, the Semper Opera House as a lot to offer. Its perfect symmetry with a spacious forecourt is an ideal place to have some fun with your camera. The many lights give the building a golden glow at dusk, which fascinates every visitor.
As everything in the historic centre of Dresden, the Semperoper was badly damaged in WW2. It took 40 years until the February 13, 1985, when it could finally be reopened. The reconstruction was based on plans very close to the ones from the first building by architect Gottfried Semper in 1838.

The Semperoper was part of the UNESCO World Heritage
The Semperoper and the whole Dresden Elbe Valley were part of the UNESCO World Heritage between 2004 and 2009. Unfortunately, the politicians from Dresden decided to build a new bridge that destroys the uniqueness and therefore Dresden was delisted from the World Heritage.
