Eternal Flame | Olympic Stadium Berlin

Olympic Stadium in Berlin

Since more than 14 years I like to call the Olympic stadium in Berlin my second living room. I went with Hertha Berlin through the 2nd leagues as well as through Europe. I’ve seen many places and stadiums, but nothing comes close to a home game in Berlin.

For a long time I thought how to capture an image that is worthy to the Olympic stadium. At some point I had the thought that theoretically, the sun should shine through the 2nd side throughout the whole stadium. Unfortunately there are only 4 days a year in which you can test that theory – and those days in months on which you can count the sunny days on the fingers of one hand. But on March 10th, 2014 at 5:45pm I could finally find out if my thoughts were right.

I tried to convince the gatekeeper to open the gate so that I would have a free visual axis. He didn’t want to help me and left the bars closed. But as fate willed, just in the right moment a delivery truck left the stadium area. For a few seconds during the two minutes in which you could see the sun like that the gate stood open – I quickly used that opportunity!

By the way, the sunlight is broken by the fire bowl for the Olympic flame – the Eternal Flame.

Sumfinity.com presents the hub for my works. I write about my impressions on my trips and during taking the photos. I try to provide you with insight into my artistic life, but the focus is always with the pictures.

It fills me with pride when I see that my photos are sometimes viewed by approximately 150,000 people within 24 hours. I imagine that I can give all those people at least two seconds of pure pleasure. That’s 80 hours of happiness! In a world which is dominated by sad, upsetting and dismaying news, I’m so glad to be able to create a small counterpart.
